:Hello! Another new week! As I write this, the sun is shining bright and warm and making me feel hopeful that things are getting better. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and could make the most of the sunshine safely while it lasted. Below is the work for this week. I hope you find it managable and as always please email me if you have any queries. I have included a printable list of all the sight words learned in Junior Infants if you'd find them useful as flashcards. However, don't worry if you don't have printing facilities as you could always just write them on some paper... :) Thanks for the emails you have been sending, it's great to get updates on how the girls are doing. Take care and keep safe, Ms McQuaid Monday 11th May English: As before: Go to FolensOnline.ie and click ‘register’ and select ‘teacher’. Fill in a username, email, and password. For 'Roll Number' use ‘Prim20’. Then find the Starlight resources for Junior Infants Unit 15 – Holiday Fun Oral language: Big Book- Cars, Trains and Airplanes Lesson 3
Reading: Core Reader- We have now covered all four of the core readers for the Junior Infant Starlight programme. I know lots of you are doing lots of other reading at home so you can keep up the good work there! If you’d like more readers to work on, remember the resources we have mentioned already: Oxford Owls Remember : Oxford Owls have a free e-book library which is very good for supplementary reading: home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/ Note: You will need to set up an account to view the books (if you have not done so already). Then browse by Oxford Level. It is best to start with less challenging material and move up through the levels. The Oxford Reading Tree books are most suitable Reading Egg https://app.readingeggsjunior.com/ If you have any difficulty in accessing these do let me know. Everybody Worries is a lovely story about these strange times you might like to read. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29765.html Sight words: We have now covered all the sight words for Junior Infants. Normally, this time of year would be all about revising and consolidating them using fun games and supplementary readers. I’ll add the list of all the ones the girls have done since January to help you revise and I’ll keep adding a word of the day for you to focus on as revision, but feel free to focus on whichever words you feel need attention and keep spotting them in any books or reading you are doing. Some of these words are in your child’s word folder but I have added a printout of all of them her in case you’d like to have the full set- just print and cut out. Don’t worry if you do not have printing facilities though…perhaps you could write them out on small pieces of card/paper instead. Junior Infant Sight Words: I have the my was we to he she go see look of here is are has this one for with you were said they that there some like his her where what Word of the Day: I Repeat previous activities https://sightwords.com/ can be used to help revision as before. https://www.themeasuredmom.com/10-simple-sight-word-activities/ These are 10 quite simple to implement sight word games to help revise. As always, you can revise all letter names and sounds and use the list of words posted previously to practice sounding out short words. Writing: q is our next new letter. What sound does it make? What starts with this sound? *Note that u always follows q to make the <qu> sound Do they know a teacher that has Qu in her name…? Use this rhyme to help practice writing: Slant up. Curve around. Today we are looking at the concepts of ‘first’ and ‘last’. Normally we would do a lot of work on this in school, lining up the children and holding up cards with ‘first’ and ‘last’ on them. We would also relate it to how we line up for the yard, having a Line Leader who is first in the line and a Line Finisher who is last in the line At home, you could use toys. Line up stuffed toys and dolls. Tell the child where the start of the line is. Ask “Which one is first? Which one is last?” Then change the line-up and ask “Which one is first now? Which is last now?” You could line up Lego figurines, wooden toys, cutlery and do the same activity. Get the child to put the words ‘first ‘and ‘last’ in the correct places. Hello! I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend. I was very sad and disappointed to learn on Friday evening that I won't get to see you again this school year. It was not really surprisng but I think a part of me was hoping we might get some more time in our classroom together before June. However, it is for the best and important for us all to stay the course with patience so we will soon be able to see all our loved ones again safely ... I for one can't wait to see my family again! Here's the work for this week. As usual just do what you can ... Keep safe. The end of another week! Hopefully it's another week closer to things getting safer and a little more back to normal! Thanks very much for all your cooperation with work this week. It is much appreciated and please remember, don't worry about what you are managing to cover. Everyone is doing their best and staying well so that's the most important thing.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend and can make the most of the sunshine, within the restrictions of course! Chat again on Monday. Best wishes and stay safe, Ms McQuaid Hello again!
As I'm sure you are all aware by now, I sent you all an email this morning to the address you had supplied to the school. It has come to my attention that in some cases it may have been re-directed to spam or junk mail so just to alert you to this fact if you are having trouble finding my email! Thank you all. Best wishes, Ms McQuaid Hello everyone! Welcome back to our Blog! I really hope you are all keeping well, had a lovely Easter and that the Easter Bunny was generous! I was sad to not get to see my family this holiday, but I made the most of the lovely weather by going for some walks and runs and enjoyed lots of cups of tea in my apartment. This week I have set out some work divided into days to help you do some schoolwork while the schools remain closed. I hope it is clear and you find it useful. Please, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to use the emails you were issued. I’d also love to hear how you have all been getting on! As I have said many times, please do not let doing schoolwork become a source of stress at home. These are suggestions only and you are free to do whatever you find manageable. I know some parents may be worrying that they are not doing enough or that their child might fall behind. Please remember, we are all in the same boat and will all be “catching up” when we return. If schoolwork is causing tension, then it will only prove to be counterproductive so do what you can and prioritise keeping safe and well. I'm looking forward to hearing how you have been getting along. Keep up the hand washing and being good to your mams and dads and siblings! Welcome to the Easter holidays! I am really missing being in class with you all and getting to celebrate the start of our spring holidays together but hopefully we will all be back together again soon. I am really looking forward to catching up with all the girls and to hearing all your stories of how you have been getting on. Thanks so much for co-operating and completing some schoolwork while at home over the past three weeks. As I have stated already, please do not let this be a source of worry or stress for you at this already difficult time. Do what you can and please remember, keeping healthy, happy and well is more important than anything at the moment. It is inevitable that there will be some gaps in learning this year compared with other years. However the girls were doing great up until now and there is no need to worry about falling behind. We are all in the same situation and will all be playing a bit of catch up when things get back to normal. Rest assured that these gaps will be filled and looking at the bigger picture, positive memories of this time will be what the children will carry with them and what will help them most at this time. As it is the Easter holidays, us teachers are not going to assign any work for the nest two weeks. Therefore, I hope that you all can make the most of your time at home and enjoy lots of play, exercise, reading, cooking, gardening and art. If you like, you could take some pictures and after Easter (whether school reopens or not) you will be able to email me should you wish to show me some photographs of what you got up to! The more active and creative the better. Although I have been missing watching Liverpool and the rugby teams playing over the past few weeks, I have been keeping busy by learning how to cook different dinners from my recipe books which I never usually have time to read and have been practicing my own yoga! Being active, if only indoors, is really important for helping us feel happier and I have also been dancing around my apartment to my favourite songs which keeps me in a good mood! Look after one another over the break. Stay home, stay safe and keep washing your hands! Thanks again to all the parents and guardians who are working hard at home, looking after their families and/ or still going out to work in the essential services we are all depending on! Be good, stay well and we will get to the other side eventually! Kind regards, Ms McQuaid |
