Hello!
Hope you are all well. It's hard to believe that we are in the second last week of school! This will be our last full week of work for this school year. As we are officially finished school on Friday 26th June, we will set a little bit of work for early in the week next week and a few other activities... Then you will be free to enjoy the summer, such as it will be!
The work for this week is set out below...as always let me know in your emails if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
Ms McQuaid

Use the songs/games mentioned in earlier posts.
Word Families:
To help with sounding out and blending short words you could concentrate on different word families. I will add two a week for you to focus on, one on Mondays and one on Wednesdays. Use the sounds of each letter to read the words. The girls could try and think of other words that belong to the word family for that day. This is also a good rhyming activity, an important skill for learning to read.

Sharing a story together:
Camille and the Sunflowers by Laurence Anholt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqK6Iwwg96U
We learned a little bit about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh earlier in the year when we painted our own Starry Nights. As we usually learn about planting and growing sunflowers at this time of year it is a nice time to revisit Van Gogh and his love of the bright, happy sunflower. There are some resources in the art section on Friday about Van Gogh if you would like to take a look. Also, this story by Laurence Anholt is a nice, child friendly insight into the painter’s life.
As you read you can help your daughter engage with the story using similar activities to the Starlight posters and big books:
Make predictions- They can make clever guesses about what they think might happen in the story based on clues from the title and illustrations on the cover. They may also be able to remember and explain to you what job an author and illustrator do!
Make Connections- They can also be encouraged to make connections between the story and their own lives and experiences by asking simple questions like:
As always, they can try to spot any familiar Sight Words or CVC words as they read/listen to the story.
Writing:
You can continue writing your name with as many joined letters as you can.
You could also write some of the -en words and draw pictures to illustrate them if you liked.
Today’s letter to revise is t
What sound does it make? What starts with this sound?

Maths:

This week we are looking at the topic of money. Talk to your child about money.
And so on. Create a little shop and price the items from 1 cent to 5 cents.
Show your child 1 cent coins. Get the child to buy little items from 1 cent to 5 cent using the 1 cent coins.
Introduce 2 cent and 5 cent coins. Some children will be quicker to realise that 2 cent is the same as 1 cent and 1 cent. Do not worry unduly if she takes a little time to grasp this concept.

Sunflowers:
At this time of year, we would usually be looking at the topic of Sunflowers (Ms McQuaid’s favourite flower!!)
You could have fun trying to plant your own at home or any other flower and discuss what important things plants need to grow.
